Grainger raises full-year earnings guidance

CHICAGO - Maintenance products distributor W.W. Grainger Inc. on Tuesday raised its earnings per share guidance for the full year after posting strong third-quarter results.

The company now expects to post 2008 earnings per share in a range of $6 to $6.20, up from its prior forecast of $5.80 to $6.10 per share.

The raised guidance came as the company reported that its third-quarter profit rose 28 percent on a double-digit increase in sales.

Analysts surveyed by Thomson Reuters were expecting full-year earnings per share of $5.90.
