Popular talk-show host Oprah Winfrey on Friday endorsed Amazon.com's Kindle, a blessing that may give the e-book reader a boost in sales and push it further ahead of its rival, the Sony Reader.

The Kindle, an electronic device that holds books and other readable material, was developed by online retailer Amazon. Jeff spoke about the kindle Friday on the Oprah Winfrey show.
"We started working on this several years ago," Bezos explained. "It takes a long time to design something like this, and we really wanted it to be something that would improve upon the book."
In a posting on her Web site, Winfrey revealed that she had proclaimed the Kindle her "favorite new gadget" on her afternoon TV talk show.
"I know it's expensive in these times, but it's not frivolous because it will pay for itself," she said, according to her Web site. "The books are much cheaper, and you're saving paper." All books are $9.99 or less on Amazon.com.
The $359 device can be used without a computer. It uses wireless connectivity to download books from Kindle Store.
