Police detectives believe four people were involved in an attack Sunday night at the University of Central Arkansas that left 2 people dead and one injured, according to a university spokeswoman.

UCA police spokeswoman Lt. Rhonda Swindle said on Monday that the shootings took place near a male dormitory behind the campus police station, according to the Associated Press.

Police have detained a person of interest for questioning but no one has been arrested, the University said in a statement on its website.

A UCA student died at the scene while two other victims were transported to Conway Regional Medical Center. One of those people, also a student, died at the hospital. The other person, not a student, was treated and eventually released.

The names of the victims will not be released until their families have been notified, the university said.

The university's police department received a call at 9:19 p.m. reporting shots on the campus. A UCA police officer heard the shots and responded immediately.

"We have really good leads we're following up on right now and we feel the campus is safe," Swindle said, according to AP.
