Earnings roundup: Archer Daniels Midland, RCN

NEW YORK (AP)--Archer Daniels Midland Co. said Tuesday its fiscal first-quarter earnings more than doubled, beating Wall Street estimates as the company benefited from lower commodity prices and higher selling prices.

HERNDON, Va. (AP)--RCN Corp. said Tuesday its third-quarter loss narrowed, helped by the $255 million acquisition of Neon Communications Group Inc. and improved margins.

DALLAS (AP)--Milk and dairy products distributor Dean Foods Co. said Tuesday its third-quarter profit rose sharply, helped by lower interest expenses, but the results fell short of analyst expectations, partly due to high commodity costs.

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. (AP)--Interline Brands Inc., a distributor and marketer of repair and maintenance products, said late Monday that third-quarter profit fell 14 percent as a difficult economic environment hurt sales, but adjusted earnings results beat analyst expectations.
