HOUSTON - A former El Paso Corp. energy trader has been sentenced to 10 months in prison in a fake trades case.

Donald Burwell of Richardson was sentenced Monday. Burwell pleaded guilty in 2006 to one count of reporting fake trade data to an industry publication that uses the information to calculate natural gas index prices.
The 47-year-old businessman originally faced several counts of conspiracy, wire fraud and reporting fake trades.
Burwell, after he's released from prison, must serve three years of supervised release.
Burwell, in the plea agreement, agreed to cooperate with the prosecution of alleged corporate fraud.
