El Paso Electric narrows full-year outlook

EL PASO, Texas - El Paso Electric Co. on Wednesday narrowed its full-year outlook after the electric utility posted a reduced third-quarter profit.

El Paso now expects 2008 earnings between $1.65 and $1.85 per share. Previously, it guided for $1.60 and $1.95 per share.

Analysts surveyed by Thomson Reuters expect $1.80 per share.

The utility said its third-quarter profit fell 8 percent, missing Wall Street expectations. It earned $33.1 million, or 74 cents per share, for the quarter ended Sept. 30, down from $36.1 million, or 79 cents per share, a year ago.
