Vietnam Veteran Visits Fellows on Veterans Day

The Ridge family have been having a historical tradition of joining the military, fighting in World War II, the Korean War, and the Vietnam War, says newsandtribune.com.

Patrick Ridge and his four brothers were in the military, as well as his two sons who fought last year in Iraq's Desert Storm. No matter if Ridge's grandsons decide to continue this tradition or not, he would still support them.

What impreses Ridge the most is that other veterans who passed through the same thingsas him are those who trully understand him.

Ridge is from Jeffersonville. The Veterans Day has given him the opportunity to visit his veteran friends and share stories with them.

Since 1975 when he started working for the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1157 in Vincennes, Patrick was attributed the function of an All-State District Commander and 26 posts were left in his charge.

Veteran Patrick has been suffering consequences after the Vietnam War, like leukemia. He received the diagnose in June and throughout the whole month of September, Ridge followed a treatment at Norton Hospital. Other treatments are to follow.

"You have to have a good sense of humor, you have to know that you're going to whip it, and you have to know the Lord is on your side," Ridge said.

During the war, he saw about 60,000 soldiers killed.

As for his four brothers, they served in World War II and the Korean War.

"I was never on the front lines, but I was close enough to cause trouble," he said.
