SAN FRANCISCO - BRE Properties, Inc. said Thursday that its chief financial officer has resigned for personal reasons.

The resignation of Henry Hirvela was effective Thursday, and is "not a result of any disagreement with the company regarding financial or accounting practices," the company said in a statement.
Hirvela will be replaced by Edward Lange, the company's current executive vice president and former CFO.
Shares of BRE Properties rose $3.91, or 14 percent, to close at $31.55 in a rising market.
