Cook's promotion follows the resignation this week of Jason A. Hochberg, who held the same role but left to pursue other interests, the company said.

Cook, 44, will oversee the company's power generation fleet. He will report to President and Chief Executive Bruce A. Williamson.

In another move, the company promoted Mario E. Alonso to vice president of strategic planning and corporate business development. Alonso, 37, was previously managing director, strategic planning and corporate business development.

Houston-based Dynegy operates 29 facilities in 13 states.
