Korea car domestic sales declined 27.7 percent

04 December 2008 @ 06:50 pm ET

SEOUL, South Korea - Korea's domestic sales and exports fell in November compared to the same month last year as the global economic turmoil dampened demands, according to a trade association.

According to a report announced by Korea Automobile Manufacturers Association (KAMA) on Thursday, production fell 18.2 percent, with 328,179 cars sold and domestic sales plummeted by 27.7 percent, with only 74,753 cars sold. Exports dropped 12.5 percent, with 348,943 cars sold.

Kia Motors' compact car, the Morning, topped the individual sales chart and is likely to stay atop the list for several months, with plenty of orders piled up over the next three months, KAMA reported.

The combined production of cars, trucks and buses by Hyundai Motor Co., Kia Motors Corp. and other local Korean automakers is expected to total 3.89 million vehicles this year compared with 4.08 million units last year, an official at the Korea Automobile Manufacturers Association said.
