The comedy stars Aniston, Owen Wilson and a Labrador retriever.
The film received positive reviews from half the critics featured in movie aggregation site Rottentomatoes.com.
Enthusiastic critics appreciated the film’s comedy and the actors’ ability to deliver.
"When Marley (the Labrador) is not on the screen, Wilson and Aniston demonstrate why they are gifted comic actors. They have a relationship that's not too sitcomish, not too sentimental, mostly smart and realistic," writes Roger Ebert from the Chicago Sun Times.
The remaining critics may have regarded the film as boring with little drama, not much comedy and failing to do justice to the book it is based on.
"Its a labra-bore," Kyle Smith from the New York Post wrote.
"Marley and Me" is the story of a man and the adventures of his dog based on a real life story by John Grogan who made it into a column in the Philadelphia Inquirer. Its success led to the book’s development and publication.
