U.S. presidential salary

President Barack Obama, like Bush, will be paid $400,000 in monthly installments, and an expense allowance of $50,000 to help defray official expenses.

Other perks include the White House, a large staff team, an airplane and an entertainment allowance.

As a former president, Bush will receive a pension of $191,000 a year. The salary paid to cabinet officers. There will also be money for an office and continued protection from the Secret Service.

In September 1999, President Clinton signed legislation that increased the presidential salary to $400,000, effective January 2001. The Constitution prohibits pay raises for sitting presidents, from $100,000 to $200,000, since 1969.

According to spending legislation congressional budget negotiators, Bush's benefits, pursuant to the act, will total $366,000 through the end of September, and will include a $146,000 pension, plus $11,000 for travel, $95,000 in office rent, $15,000 in phone charges and $50,000 for staff salaries and benefits, which is expect to be enacted next month, and will increase in the 2010 fiscal year – the first full year he will be out of office.

He would also get a $1million seed money to establish a foundation.

Why should we continue to pay (tax money) for a president who is out of office, I mean shouldn't they pay for their own protection? Plus, I thought Former President Clinton was the last president to receive life time protection?
