The physical exam of sheets revealed that the tear on his flexor tendon may require surgery.

Recently, the status of Sheets' injury had previously been viewed as correctable with rest.

Rangers' general manager Jon Daniels told mlb.com that he isn't optimistic about signing Sheets in hope that he'll rehab and eventually pitch this season.

Sheets and the Rangers were close to a 2 year contract, which only required a physical exam.

The elbow bothered Sheets late last season and prevented him from pitching in the postseason for Milwaukee.
