China March iron ore imports surge to record 51m tonnes

China's iron ore imports surged to a record 51 million tonnes in March, the Ministry of Transportation said in a report on its website that cited preliminary ministry statistics.

The surge reflected a recovery in production at Chinese steel mills spurred by the government's economic stimulus package, the report said. (Reporting by Alfred Cang; Editing by Edmund Klamann)
