13-year-old teen wins Apple's billion-app contest

A 13-year-old downloaded the billionth application from the Apple App online Store, becoming the grand-prize winner in the company's app countdown contest, Apple said Friday.

Connor Mulcahey of Weston, Conn., downloaded an app called Bump, a tool for swapping information such as contact details and photos, s by bringing the devices close together.

He won a $10,000 iTunes gift card, a 17-inch MacBook Pro, a 32GB iPod touch, and an Apple Time Capsule

The App Store, launched nine months ago, reached the billion-app milestone late Thursday. Apple started the official countdown two weeks ago to its one billionth app served.

The online store offers more than 35,000 applications in 77 countries.
