Universal Health Q1 profit rises 14 percent

Operating acute care and behavioral health hospital, Universal Health Services Inc. said Monday its first quarter profit rose 14 percent despite slow in and out admissions patients.

Its profit rose to $1.37 per share to $67.5 million from $1.20 per share or $61.7 million a year ago. And revenue rose 3 percent to $1.31 billion from $1.28 billion, same period a year earlier.

The company said inpatient admissions decreased 1.1 percent and patients’ days decreased 2.2 percent and adjusted revenue increased 0.9 percent and 2.0 percent for acute care services.

Behavioral Health Care Services, inpatient admissions increased 1.1 percent and patient days decreased 1.4 percent with net revenues increased of 2.8% or per adjusted patient increased of 4.8 percent for the said quarter.

In 2008, it had reported fiscal net income of $199.4 million or $3.93 per share ended December 31, 2008 from $170.4 million or $3.18 per share a year earlier. And Fiscal revenues increased 7 percent to $5.02 billion from to $4.68 billion in 2007.

Shares were also raised $2.80 to 6.47 percent at $46.08 in the regular New York Stock trading.
