Wireless charging is not something new, it’s been used in electric toothbrushes, electric shavers and there are many other items that charge utilizing magnetic induction. However, this will be the first time it will be used on cellphones.

The new wireless charging pad will only work with the Pre. It will be priced at $69.99.

The “Touchstone” charger, which works only on the Pre, holds the device in place utilizing magnets. When the phone is on the charger, it will off the ability to answer ringing calls on speakerphone, until the phone is picked up when it will convert and operate normally.

Palm first introduced the Pre at the Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas in January, but has yet to say when the highly anticipated challenger to Apple's iPhone will hit the market. However, media reports suggest that the Pre will most likely be released in early June.
