iPhone 3.0 release time not yet confirmed

UPDATE: Based on previous roll outs made by Apple, tech watchers are speculating the iPhone 3.0 update will be out at 10am PST or 1pm EST. Read more.

Apple iPhone 3.0 Update will be released today June 17, according to the Apple iPhone website.

However, the Website did not confirm the time that the software download will be made available.

The iPhone 3.0 boasts new features which will allow users to cut, copy and pasting text between applications. The OS will offer a landscape keyboard for easier typing and will also allow users to send MMS.

Spotlight search offers a one-stop search which visits every application on the phone for the search item, so the user does not need to hop from one application to another. Voice memos will be offered which convert an iPhone to a sound recorder that can record meetings. The Enhanced Stocks App is something that will also be useful to owners who are into the Stock Market trade.

iPhone 3.0 will be a free release for all iPhone customers -- both original iPhone users and iPhone 3G users will be able to download it at no charge once it's released. iPod touch customers can download the new release for $9.95, and it will work on first- and second-generation iPod touch models.

You can guess that the software will be released sometime just after noon NY time. The reason? Well, if you check out the India website, it says iPhone 3.0 comes June 17. But Singapore/Hong Kong are saying June 18. Midnight in Singapore is noon in NYC, so it must come online AFTER that point. Midnight in Mumbai is 2.30pm in NYC, so it must come online BEFORE that point. Therefore, it will be available sometime in the next five hours or so. It is now 18.53 in Mumbai, 21:23 in Singapore.

Just read that Apple will be deploying 3.0 using technology reverse engineered from a crashed alien spacecraft allowing temporal displacement which actually means we had the update yesterday. Unfortunately, this caused a cascading causality failure which destablised the fabric of space-time and we are all thrown into an alternate multi-verse where we are still waiting on Apple's update. Hope this clears up the confusion. ;-)

Here's a predicament: My internet is so slow at my apartment that i'm guessing it will take 8 hours to download 3.0 My iPhone's 3g probably goes 5 times faster than my broadband (a lot of people on the same network) I wish I had unlocked my phone to use tethering to download it, but I have a feeling there would be some consequences to doing that!

Are some of you serious? It's not the end of the world people. It will come out today, who cares what time. I love my iPhone but for christ sakes people, there are more important things to worry about than whether it comes out at midnight or at 6pm.... My god, put your life in perspective folks. Waking up at 3am and waiting anxiously so you can download an update and then crying about it when you're not the first one to download it has to be pretty high on the "I'm a pathetic loser" category. Come on guys....you all know when it's going to come out if you pay attention to the way Apple ALWAYS does things. All meeting and keynotes start at 10 PST/PDT. It's safe to assume that it will be available for download at 10 on the west coast or 1 on the east coast.

I have had an iPhone since it was first released in 2007, and I bought a 3G about 4 days after it was released last year, but I upgraded to 2.0 on my 1st gen iPhone before that, and that was a BIG update, bigger than 3.0, I think. I remember the days BEFORE the App Store, when you could only have apps if you hacked your phone. I won't lie, I was excited last night, and I tried to go update at 6:00am this morning (EST), and while I was disappointed, I have no doubts that it will be released when they announced. Hey, at least they aren't SUPPOSED to be releasing at 6pm, like they did with the very first iPhone... I used to work for Apple and they have NEVER failed to do something they promised... :) I was looking forward to MMS, but I guess I will have to wait until late summer... oh well. I still LOVE Apple and I still LOVE my iPhone. :)

Maybe if the i Dev Team would have waited until tomorrow to let the "world" know they've unlocked it already maybe Apple would have released it by now. Now Apple has to find away to stop the unlocking and jailbreak process because AT&T would lose customers (money)!!! They have to hold up their end of the contract with AT&T..... Ok so the apple site does not say its been moved back...and unfortunately...it is more than likely that it will be at 1pm EST...seeing as the reason that Mr. Smith gave us...and because it is known that the updates are usually release at 5pm GMT..which is 1 EST :) 2 HOURS!!!!

If you were a true fan, you'd wait until it came out and not start bashing Apple the minute after the time you thought the release was going to happen. If they push it to late today or even tomorrow, or next week, so what. Is your phone going to stop working because of the delay? Nope! So chill and don't obsess about not having instant gratification. Grow a pair, relax and enjoy some fresh air or something more important. The update will be available when it's good and ready. I tell ya, I'm a huge Apple fan, have been since the 90's. Been working on Macs probably before some... or perhaps most of you even knew the brand. Everything they do is top-notch in design and in bringing innovation to the marketplace ahead of the pack. I hooked up my iPhone this morning and no update.... So I was like... "ok, must come out later". Big deal! A few hours, or a few days won't make any difference to me. I'd rather it be ready when it's ready than be pushed out the door half-assed....you know, like everything Microsoft does!

someone stated above that there was some sort of nationwide text message in Hong Kong, which stated that there release would occur at 6:00 PM ( not sure) their time, which translates to 1:00 PM NYC time, which again translates to Noon Chicago Time. as you can see this is my first update. lol :P

Most articles on major news sites suggest this, and the Twitter notice by Telia (which is the sole phone provider for iPhone over here in Sweden) states that it will be 19:00 UTC, 18:00 GMT. It's not available to download yet here in UK, but I did just get this message from O2. "The new iPhone OS 3.0 Software launces tonight and gives your current iPhone lots of new features. You will need to update your iPhone settings after downloading the new software. Installed about 2 hours ago without a problem and everything works perfectly as far as I can tell. While the focus has been on copy and paste and availability of landscape in applications like mail, I also like some of the subtle new features. For example, the ability to delete parts of old (SMS) message and the new appearance of "recent" calls are nice little improvements. The Voice Memos app is going to be very useful!

No Network Tethering to ur Mac/PC (Blame ATT) My personal wish: 1. GPS Turn by Turn direction (i know with Maps it is a copyright issue) 2. Video Recording - comeon every smpart phone doz it 3. Flash Support - half a dozen sights dont work When will we get all this fixed? Dont tell me I need to buy a 3GS to get Video Recording, it should be simple to get this fixed on 3G phone, right? Any takers? I dont want to Jail-break it, since I am loyal Apple fan. Bottomline - Disappointed with hope that next update would have fixed every darn thing.

nevermind it was a temp thing, mmm downloaded the firmware in like 1 min :P the mms is in the SMS window, to the left of the area where you tap to start typing there's a camera, you can either pick an image or take a new one
