Time and date of Michael Jackson Memorial service decided; 11,000 tickets available for free

03 July 2009 @ 12:45 pm ET

The time and date of the Michael Jackson's memorial service has been finally decided.

The farewell service will take place on Tuesday, July 7 at 10 a.m. local time at the Staples Center in downtown Los Angeles according to the Jackson family publicist.

Eleven thousand tickets will be made available to the general public free of charge, according to Randy Phillips, chief executive of AEG Live, which owns the Staples Center and was Jackson's promoter.

He also said that he is not sure how they will distribute these tickets.

Los Angeles City Councilman Dennis Zine says the service could draw 100,000 fans and the center's capacity is just about 20,000.

He says with the July Fourth holiday weekend "it's the worst time ... to work something out." He also says he's concerned about the cost of police overtime for the cash-strapped city.

Details on how to register for the 10 a.m. (1 p.m. ET) service are to be announced later today.

The program will also be simulcast at Los Angeles' nearby Nokia Theatre.

Is it possible that Michael Jackson had HIV &/or AIDS? He wore masks, has respiratory problems at a young age, & was extremely thin, all symptoms of the disease. Just wondering, because I have not heard anyone mention this possibility. Even if that was not the direct cause of death, I don't know if that info would be released if it were to be the case.

Ms Smith let Michael rest in peace...He has met his Maker...no time for cotnroversy nor judgement.....what a horrible thought.....people in this world hunger to judge others....my only wish is that they would hunger after God like a person whos head is on fire ....chases water.
It never matters what anyone thinks of you...but God the true Master. Let God do His Job....

I grew up listening to his music. He was great and what difference does it make how he died. He is gone an may he now have the peace he deserves. It sickens me to think people would talk bad about someone and when they pass away the same people will act like they were his best friend. My thoughts and prayers are with his family.

Why is anyone surprised? He had been miserable his entire life due to the constant beatings and lack of childhood at the hands of his "parents". It is a wonder he lived as long as he did. At least he has peace now. His parents should be ashamed!!

Ms. Smith, if you practiced as hard and long as Michael Jackson did, you would be thin too!!! Nobody talks of all the good things he did when he was living. He was the most thoughtful, loving, and caring person I have ever known. Negative people like you was what sent him to his early grave!!!!
