Steve McNair, former NFL star, killed in Tenn.: reports

McNair's brother, Fred, also confirmed the death of the former Tennessee Titans and Baltimore ravens star, but had no immediate details, the CNN Wire report posted at 4:54 p.m. stated. The report says police found him dead but did not indicate the time. McNair was 36.

"We are saddened and shocked to hear the news of Steve McNair's passing today," said Titans owner K.S. 'Bud' Adams, Jr. in a released statement on the team's website. "He was one of the finest players to play for our organization and one of the most beloved players by our fans. He played with unquestioned heart and leadership and led us to places that we had never reached, including our only Super Bowl. Our thoughts and prayers are with his family as they deal with his untimely passing."

NewsChannel5.com also reported the incident in a 4:07 pm report, which said McNair suffered a fatal gunshot wound to the head in the city's downtown area.

The NewsChannel5.com report stated the incident happened near 2nd South & Lea Avenue. It also said a female victim was also found dead.

A spokesman for the Metro Nashville Police Department, Don Aaron told NewsChannel5.com that no suspects had been taken into custody. Several people have been taken to police headquarters for questioning, according to the report.

ESPN.com also reported at 5:10 p.m. McNair has been killed, citing an unnamed source.

The woman has not been identified, pending notification of next of kin, Aaron said, according to ESPN.com.
