Microsoft Steven Sinofsky promoted

Microsoft on Wednesday said Steven Sinofsky has been promoted as President to the Windows Division, and will lead its business, from development and marketing functions for Windows, to Windows Live and the Internet Explorer.

"Steven Sinofsky has demonstrated the ability to lead large teams that deliver great products. The work he and the team have done in getting ready to ship Windows 7 really defines how to develop and ship world-class software," said Microsoft CEO Steve Ballmer. "He is a perfect fit to lead the Windows group."

20-year veteran, Sinofsky enters Microsoft in 1989 in engineering handling multiple positions on Microsoft products making its way to be the senior vice president of the Windows and Windows Live engineering group previously.

The company also said, when Window 7 hits its manufacturing milestone on July 13, Bill Veghte will be move to a new leadership role in the company and current chief financial officer of Windows Division, Tami Reller, will take charge of the marketing businesses.

"In addition to her in-depth knowledge of the Windows business, I'm excited that Tami will bring to Windows her experience in marketing and finance, along with a history of fostering a strong and profitable partner ecosystem in business software," Sinofsky said. While Jon DeVaan will continue his role as senior vice president, reporting to Sinofsky.
