Asia's No.1 outdoor digital playground opened in HK

31 July 2009 @ 04:11 pm ET

Hong Kong on Thursday opened its first DigPlayground at Cyberpor, which is also the first unique outdoor digital playground in Asia.

Originated in Finland, digital playgrounds have been enjoying great popularity in more than 16 countries worldwide, and the innovative playground is introduced to Hong Kong and in Asia for the very first time.

Located in the waterfront park, the playground has three innovative playground facilities - the SmartUs Basic, Spin Wheel and Football Cages. The playground opens daily from 7am to 11pm free to the public.

Speaking at today's opening ceremony, Permanent Secretary for Commerce & Economic Development (Communications & Technology) Duncan Pescod said the facility is a hybrid of game, learning and physical activity.

Noting the playground provides an alternative to ordinary indoor electronic games, he said the venue will help the local community appreciate how technology can enhance the quality of life and foster a creative atmosphere within the community.

To complement the opening of the new digital playground, Cyberport is hosting the Play Kingdom @ Cyberport - a Traditional-game Gala until August 9. There are booths featuring 14 traditional games like hopscotch and marbles.

Cyberport is a US$2 billion (HK$15.8 billion) landmark project managed by Hong Kong Cyberport Management Company Limited, and wholly owned by the Hong Kong SAR Government.

Interconnected by a state-of-the-art broadband network, the Cyberport community is home to four Grade-A intelligent office buildings, a five-star hotel, a retail entertainment complex and about 2,800 deluxe residences.
