H1N1 breaks out in Hong Kong hospital

Hong Kong's Hospital Authority reported on Friday the H1N1 outbreak in the city's hospital, with five patients in a ward infected H1N1 and totally 64 hospital staff confirmed with H1N1.

Since July 27, a total of five patients (aged from 33 to 76) of a male ward of Kwai Chung Hospital had presented with symptoms of fever and flu, said the spokesperson of Kwai Chung Hospital.

Viral test results of four patients are positive to H1N1, said the spokesman, adding that the patients are being treated under isolation and in stable condition by now.

Admission and visiting to the ward concerned are suspended for the time being in case of possible infection, according to Hospital Authority.

All other patients in the ward are under close surveillance and infection control measures of the ward concerned have already been enhanced.

Hong Kong confirmed 214 new cases of H1N1 on Friday with a total tally of 3,673 cases so far.

The newly confirmed cases include nine public hospital staff members, which is increasing in number day by day.

By far there were 64 public hospital staff members being confirmed as H1N1, 36 of whom have already recovered and returned to work, the Hospital Authority said.

Currently, a total of 46 confirmed cases are staying in public hospitals for treatment, with 41 cases in stable condition, two in serious and three in critical condition.
