Serena Williams earned a code violation and match penalty late Saturday night which put an end to her U.S. Open run.

In a match with Kim Clijsters, Williams was called for a foot fault violation by the line judge at 10:52 p.m. on her second serve to go match point down.

The cameras show that she shouted something at the official. What did Serena Williams say? One report indicates she said, “I would kill you.” Others are reporting that it was a curse.

As she had already received an earlier warning in the match for smashing a racket, Serena was handed an automatic point penalty for a second violation.

The decision was made to assess a code violation and a match penalty, giving Kim Clijsters a 6-4, 7-5 victory.

I cannot believe that anyone uses that kind of language any more. She lost her temper, her race has NOTHING to do with this.

She was angry and her response was beyond the pale, her words were threatening and totally out of character for the sport of tennis. She will be vilified for her actions and rightfully so, but this will only get worse if she continues to lie about her actions and betray her response to the situation by joking about it at the VMA's as she did. Tennis is going to survive this and Serena needs to get some good PR coaching if she wants to retain her good image (which is surely in jeopardy at the moment).

Tell me, which one of you, in all your years of living didn't do or say or behave inappropriately? We are human, we get angry, we say things that in the heat of the moment we want to retract in the 20/20 vision of hindsight. Its just a sad reality that her life is under the public eye and more emotional intelligence was required - only because in the backlash of her actions, we would have so many glass house dwellers pelting stones!

Everyone just need to shut there "DA- - Mouths, He with out sin may cast the first stone. Come on we all at some point in time have lost our tempers. We get so confused with entertainers and those in the sport industry as if they need to be holier than thou. Hell it's their job know different than the post man, the bus diver, the lawyer, or the teacher. So with that being said, if you or your children look to them to be your role models than your problem is bigger than Ms. Williams losing her temper. their only job is to entertain us not set a code of conduct !!!!!!!!!

She lost her temper, she lost the match. I understand that people can lose their temper, but when they do there are consequences. Get mad at work and mouth off to the wrong person, you get reprimanded. Tennis is her job, she mouthed off at the wrong person when something didn't go her way, and she got reprimanded. The sad part is that celebrities losing their cool like this is becoming too acceptable, citing that they're only human. Sure, they're human, but why allow them to gain further (positive) attention by making a joke out of it? The rest of us risk losing our job for "being human" too often, she gets fined and loses points.

I can possibly understand Serena losing her temper. I watch a lot of tennis and I don't recall ever seeing her lose it to that extent. However, after watching the press conference and her lack of apology, I've completely lost respect for Serena. What she should have done is come out, say that she is deeply sorry to the lines person, to Kim, and to the fans for her behavior. She should have owned it. She still hasn't owned it. As Mary Carillo said afterwards, Serena should get an Oscar for her performance in that press conference.
