Global and U.S. IPO league tables

09 October 2009 @ 06:07 pm ET

The biggest week for initial public offerings in 18 months, fueled by offerings from Banco Santander (Brasil) SA and insurance risk specialist Verisk Analytics Inc that raised a combined $10 billion, provided a much-needed boost to investment bankers.

Five of the 10 largest IPOs this year have been by Chinese companies, helping land China International Capital atop the global IPO league tables, while Bank of America Merrill Lynch tops the U.S.-listed IPO tables on the strength of the Santander Brasil and Verisk IPOs.

Despite the large deals this week, dollar volume globally is still down 35 percent from a year ago, with 289 IPOs raising $60.3 billion, according to Thomson Reuters data. In the United States, 36 IPOs have raised $16.4 billion in 2009.

Below are the Top 10 underwriters for U.S.-listed and global IPOs.
