Intel appoints Douglas Melamed general counsel

Intel Corp on Friday said that it has named Douglas Melamed as senior vice president and general counsel.

He will be responsible for overseeing all Intel legal matters as well as corporate and government affairs.

Melamed, 63, will be responsible for overseeing all Intel legal matters as well as corporate and government affairs. He will report to Intel President and CEO Paul Otellini.

Melamed used to serve in the Department of Justice as acting assistant attorney general in charge of the antitrust division and as principal deputy assistant attorney general. He is an expert in antitrust practice with over30 years of experience.

"We're extremely pleased to have Doug join the Intel team," Otellini said. "His breadth of experience and legal expertise combined with his background in government are an outstanding fit for us."

Intel's formal general counsel, Bruce Sewell, left the company in September and is now general counsel at Apple Inc.
