President Barack Obama hold his first state dinner in honor of Indian Prime Minister Manmohan Singh Tuesday evening at the White House.
Obama and First Lady Michelle welcomed 338 guests including members of the Indian community in the United States, Obama's friends and campaign donors, Hollywood personalities and members of the political sphere.
Entertainment at the dinner included a program by Oscar-winning singer-actress Jennifer Hudson. A performance of "Summon the Heroes" by the National Symphony Orchestra and Indian themed dances were also part of the program, the Associated Press reported.
The decorations were all evoking the aesthetic of the Indian culture. The tables were covered with green cloths and napkins, while the flatware and china featured gold colors. The floral centerpieces were made of hydrangeas, roses and sweet peas in colors purple and fuchsia.
Michelle Obama wore a cream and gold silk gown decorated with a shiny silver floral design. It was conceived and made in India by Naeem Khan, an Indian-born designer.
