Vicki Kennedy opens up about Ted Kennedy's last days on Oprah's show

25 November 2009 @ 07:14 pm ET

Vicki Kennedy, (Victoria Reggie Kennedy) the wife of Senator Ted Kennedy, opened up Wednesday on the Oprah Winfrey show for the first TV interview ever since the death of her husband.

Kennedy spoke about her life with Senator Ted during his last months. She described how she learned that her husband had a cancerous tumor in his brain 2008 and how the doctors told him he had a few months to live.

"He was given a very, very short period of time, and he just didn't accept that," she recalled.

Mrs. Kennedy also opened up about their "old-fashioned" courtship detailing how Senator Kennedy used to come over to her house every night for dinner and used to give her notes and flowers.

"It was just really an incredible journey to be on with this man I absolutely adored," she told Oprah. "And [it was] an inspiration to watch how Teddy grappled with such a grave diagnosis but always looked forward with hope."
