Bloom Energy, the San Francisco based energy startup which has been drawing a lot of attention this week, is holding a press event Wednesday morning where the company is expected to unveil further details on its Bloom Box product.

Bloom Energy produces Bloom Boxes which are refrigerator-sized personal power plant that produces energy cheaply and cleanly. The founder, K.R. Sridhar, told CBS' 60 Minutes that it may one day replace the traditional power grid.

The company plans to debut the Bloom Box at an event featuring board member Colin Powell, former U.S. Secretary of State, and California Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger.

I've seen the technology and it works, said Powell during a recent interview with CBS's 60 Minutes. I think the Bloom Boxes will make a significant contribution to...the transformation of our energy system.

The event is being held at eBay's San Jose headquarters at 8:30 a.m. PST. eBay says it has been running a test batch of Bloom Boxes for the past nine months, and has saved 100,000 since it started using it.

These Bloom Boxes are already powering Google, eBay, Walmart, Staples, Federal Express and 15 other top-tier energy consumers, according to Bloom Energy.

There are still many unanswered concerns over the Bloom Box including; how it compares with solar, wind and standard power, and what other avenues of income is it looking at. The company is set to provide more in depth information about the Bloom Box.
