ATLANTA - Delta Air Lines Inc said on Tuesday that it could cut 840 jobs at a subsidiary that provides ground-handling operations as part of a plan to consolidate operations in Cincinnati in May to save costs.

The airline plans to operate mainline and regional flights out of one concourse instead of two at Cincinnati/Northern Kentucky International Airport, effective May 1, and reduce the number of gates used at that airport to 28 from 50, Delta spokeswoman Kristin Baur said.
Delta expects to save about $20 million annually as a result of the changes, she said.
Some of the job cuts could be offset as Delta adds positions after the consolidation, Baur said.
Delta has more than 70,000 workers.
Separately, the carrier plans to resume service between New York's John F. Kennedy airport and Port-au-Prince, Haiti, three times a week beginning April 3, and expand the service to five times weekly, effective June 10.
