Eleven people were killed in Delhi, India on Wednesday morning when a bomb exploded outside the city's high court. At least 70 were injured in the blast, and authorities expect the number of deaths to climb throughout the day.

Delhi police released sketches of two suspects hours after a suitcase bomb was placed outside Gate No. 5 of the court house, where around 300 people were lined up to enter the building.

The blast occurred outside the High Court in the public area where unchecked people come ... Apparently the bomb was in a briefcase but it is yet to be fully confirmed, a senior police official told media.

Pakistan-based militants Harkat-ul-Jehadi Islami claimed responsibility for the attack in an e-mailed statement to various Indian media outlets. The Delhi bombing is a reminder of the always vacillating tension between India and Pakistan, and that extremism grows in a climate of fear.

This is a long war in which all political parties, all the people of India have to stand united so that the scourge of terrorism is crushed, Prime Minister Manmohan Singh said in Dhaka.

In May, the Delhi High Court was targeted, when a bomb hidden in a plastic bag was detonated outside the building. No one was injured in the attack, and there was no damage.

The Wednesday attack was also reminiscent of the Mumbai bombing on July 13 that killed 25 people. No one has claimed responsibility for the bombing.

Following the explosions in Delhi, Mumbai was on its guard and taking precautions to assure its citizens' safety.

We are on high alert and taking all precautionary measures to prevent any terror attack ... Security has been intensified at vital installations and around Mumbai courts, a city official stated.
