Since its launch in 1983, the Annual Alternative Hair Show has succeeded in raising money for better treatments and research into cures for leukemia, lymphoma, myeloma and related cancers of the blood.

The 2011 event took place at Moscow's Kremlin and showcased some very interesting hair trends and designs.

With the help of research backed by the Alternative Hair Show, scientists are now able to measure the minute number of leukemia cells that remain in a child's blood after treatment.

Over the years, the Hair Show has raised more than £8 million for research into cancers of the blood; a crucial input because it helps get clearer ideas of specific treatment plans for every person.

Similar research has also helped in the better understanding of these conditions, as well as treatment options, for both children and adults.
