The gods are always envious of the talented and it became evident on Wednesday - Apple's co-founder and former CEO Steve Jobs, a visionary and creative genius, died at 56 after fighting a long battle with cancer.

The U.S. President Barack Obama, Apple's new CEO Tim Cook, Apple's co-founder Steve Wozniak, Microsoft's Chairman and founder Bill Gates, Facebook founder and chief Mark Zuckerberg, Google co-founder and chief executive Larry Page, Twitter chief executive Dick Costolo, co-founder of Yahoo Jerry Yang, and Apple fans around the world all expressed their sentiment about the death of Jobs.

Steve was among the greatest of American innovators....he could change the world.... And there may be no greater tribute to Steve's success than the fact that much of the world learned of his passing on a device he invented, Obama said.

During his lifetime, Jobs pushed the frontiers of technology and refined how consumers used gadgets in their daily lives. By unveiling the iPod, the iPhone and the iPad, Jobs set the gold standards for the MP3 player, the smartphone and tablet industries.

However, Jobs biggest achievement is probably making Apple the world's most valuable company.

Apple's origin was a humble one, however. In 1976, Steve Jobs, Steve Wozniak and Ronald Wayne founded Apple. In 1985, Jobs resigned from Apple and founded a computer platform development company NeXT in 1986.

Apple's buyout of NeXT brought Jobs back to the company where he served as its CEO from 1997 until 2011.

On August 24, 2011, Jobs resigned as Apple's CEO and on Oct. 5, 2011, Apple announced the death of Jobs, a day after Apple unveiled iPhone 4S.
