The new jailbreak tweak called SemiTether, which helps protect a tethered iOS 5 jailbreak from making the iPhone unusable during a crash or unplanned reboot, has been fed a key update.

It was reported last week that there were some quirks to the SemiTether jailbreak package, one of which was the issue with the mobile Safari browser. According to latest reports, the semi-tethered jailbreak package is now more stable and can patch Safari to work in the non-jailbreak reboot mode.

As per the update provided by BigBoss groupm, which hosts various packages and themes in Cydia, the semi-tethered package from the repository now protects your iOS 5 notification center plug-ins. (It gives users) the option to patch mobile safari so that it will work on the non-jailbreak reboot mode.

Apart from the Safari issue, there are a few other points that bear noting. After installing the semi-tethered package, users cannot use the native mail applications and those wishful of access to jailbreak apps and Cydia, need to get back to their computer to boot tethered. The BigBoss group is looking into patching the mail issue.

Take a look at a summary of the changes:

- Far more stable with new mobile substrate.

- Can patch Safari so it works in the non-jailbreak reboot mode.

- App to monitor the status of your semi-tether and reapply. Check after Cydia installs.

The semi-tethered jailbreak lets you re-boot a device that's been jailbroken by using a tethered message without getting stuck at the boot logo. However, after installing the semi-tethered package, the device will take a longer time to boot than it normally takes using redsn0w from Device Firmware Update (DFU) mode. This is because, when the user reboots, it has to reload every service.

It's also important to keep in mind that while in the semi-tether booted state, jailbreak tweaks shouldn't be installed. The device will be stuck in a respring loop until it boots tethered from the tool.
