Droid Razr
Droid Razr Motorola

Motorola will begin selling the new Droid Razr smartphone Nov. 11 at 11:11 am, but you should wait to buy the Galaxy Nexus in a couple weeks. They both will be on Verizon, so they can take advantage of the 4G network, and even though Galaxy Nexus doesn't have a price yet, it won't be much more than the $300 Droid Razr.

While both devices are very compelling, it does come down to personal preference, so there's no need to feel like you are missing out on something if you get one over the other. Keep in mind that you can get the Droid Razr Nov. 11, but will have to wait a couple months to get the new Android update, version 4.0. When Galaxy Nexus launches, Android 4.0 will be included. Of course, that's part of the problem, there is not date given yet as to when Galaxy Nexus will go live. There is a rumor that it will launch in the UK on Nov. 21, but that is the only info out there.

Droid Razr and Galaxy Nexus have similar technical specifications, but Galaxy Nexus has a larger screen that is also slightly curved for improved comfort and viewing. Where Droid Razr is the technological marvel of compact design (thinnest smartphone), Galaxy Nexus is the true next generation device for two reasons. It will launch with the Android 4.0 OS and has the near field communication (NFC) chip that can turn the device into a mobile payment system. While Droid Razr will get the Ice Cream Sandwich system update fairly soon, it doesn't have the NFC capacity necessary to take advantage of the Android Beam. It's a new feature that lets two Android 4.0 devices with the chip transfer files instantly by holding them close together.

It's exciting to follow these fancy gadgets as they roll out, but the best idea is to wait until they are released, go to the Verizon store and take the devices for a test spin. Then you can do your own side-by-side comparison.
