Justin Bieber, Gwyneth Paltrow and Lady Gaga are just some of the big stars attending the 2011 Bambi Awards in Germany on Thursday.

The annual ceremony, which recognizes figures from Hollywood, literature, sports and politics, has been in place since 1948.

Self-proclaimed as Germany's most important media prize ceremony, the Bambi Awards honor recipients with awards shaped like the deer.

This year, Lady Gaga and Bieber will be taking home the Pop International and Entertainment Golden Deer awards, respectively.

Gaga, fresh off her eye-opening appearance at the MTV Europe Music Video Awards, is expected to deliver a powerhouse performance of Marry the Night, the next single from her album Born This Way.

Skipping the Bambi Awards red carpet, the 25-year-old entertainer took to Twitter to communicate to her German fans.

#DeutschMonsters! Paws Up! Backstage! Gaga wrote.

Lady Gaga is the most successful pop artist out there today; the queen of self-invention and a cultural phenomenon. The fans love her music, columnists review her videos, and professors are researching her influence on her culture, Bambi Awards jurors said in a statement.

Longtime Wetten, dass..? host Thomas Gottschalk will receive the TV Event of the Year Bambi award.
