People say a picture is worth a thousand words. However, when the picture is fake it can attract millions of words. The last week witnessed several such controversies, each brought about by fake or doctored photographs.

Whether it was Indian Bollywood couple Aishwary Rai Bachchan and Abhishek Bachchan's daughter, Pope Benedict XVI, U.S. President Barack Obama, Chinese President Hu Jintao, the British royal family or the Imam of the al-Azhar mosque in Egypt, everyone, it seems, was hit by morphed photographs this week. International events like protests related to Europe's debt crisis, Spain's election campaign and Italian Prime Minister Silvio Berlusconi's removal also witnessed the presence of doctored photographs.

This week about 6 million Facebook profiles were hacked and doctored photographs, reportedly of Justin Bieber in compromising positions, were circulated. In addition, unconfirmed reports suggest that those Facebook users whose accounts were hacked saw their photographs mixed with pornographic images.
