A plane with no pilots on board carrying an unspecified quantity of marijuana landed at the Houston Executive Airport Monday night.
The small twin-engine plane sat in the middle of a runway, having sustained minor damage, and the area near the Waller County airport was surrounded by the police.
It is not known whether the plane's pilot bailed out before landing or, as police moved in, immediately after. The plane is registered to an owner in La Vernia, Texas, and it had not been reported stolen, said John Kremmer, chief deputy of the Waller County Sheriff's Department.
"You could certainly classify it as a lot more than just personal use," Kremmer said to the Associated Press. "We have no idea who the pilot was or where it came from."
A large amount of marijuana was found inside the abandoned aircraft when law enforcement officers arrived at the scene shortly after the incident around 7 p.m. CDT.
