Ljubljana mayor ahead in Slovenia election - exit poll

December 4, 2011 2:28 PM EST

The centre-left party of Ljubljana Mayor Zoran Jankovic narrowly led Slovenia's parliamentary election on Sunday, according to an exit poll broadcast on national television.

The result, if confirmed, would mark a huge upset after weeks of opinion polls predicting a comfortable victory for the centre-right party of the European Union country's former prime minister Janez Jansa over the ruling Social Democrats.
