Ron Paul placed second in a recent poll of 2012 Iowa Republican caucus voters. He pulled in 18 percent, second behind Newt Gingrich at 27 percent and ahead of Mitt Romney at 13 percent.

The 2012 GOP presidential primaries race is shaping up to be a three-man contest between Gingrich, Paul and Romney.

Herman Cain dropped out. Rick Perry performed poorly in debates. Michele Bachmann’s campaign sank under internal strife. Rick Santorum, Jon Huntsman and Gary Johnson never made any serious dents.

Paul and his campaign have never been afraid of going after the frontrunner. Back in September, Paul fired at Perry during debates and his campaign released negative statements on the Texas Governor. Now, he and his campaign are after frontrunner Newt Gingrich.

His campaign also listed the following seven points against the former House Speaker in a series titled “Newt Gingrich is not a conservative:”

1. “When it comes to really manning up and seriously cutting or substantively reforming government, Gingrich always backs down. Every. Single. Time.”

2. Gingrich (like Obama) backs individual health mandate.

3. Gingrich supported Nelson Rockefeller (considered a liberal Republican) over Barry Goldwater (who was known as “Mr. Conservative”) back in the 1960s.

4. Gingrich called himself a “real politick Wilsonian.” Paul’s campaign pointed out that “traditional conservatives” consider President Woodrow Wilson “a big government villain second perhaps only to Franklin Roosevelt.”

5. George Will, a widely respected conservative writer, called Newt Gingrich the “least conservative candidate.” Will said Gingrich would have “made a marvelous Marxist.”

6. Gun Owners of America condemns Gingrich.

7. Three prominent Republican politicians condemned Gingrich.

Paul's campaign also put out the following attack ad against Gingrich.
