Galaxy Nexus to Hit Australia on Wednesday: When Will Verizon Start Selling?

Samsung Galaxy Nexus, world's first smartphone to run on Android 4.0 aka. Ice Cream Sandwich, will hit Australia on Wednesday but there's no news from Verizon Wireless yet about the smartphone's U.S. launch date.

Australian wireless carrier Telstra will begin selling the highly anticipated smartphone both online and in several selected stores in Sydney and Melbourne from Wednesday. From Thursday, Galaxy Nexus will be available in all Telstra stores and partners including JB HiFi and Fone Zone, Digital Life reported.

Telstra will offer different connect plans for the new smartphone over 24 months, including $59, $79, $99, and $129 per month (depending on talktime, text and data usage).

Telstra customers have been counting down to the launch of the world's first Android 4.0 smartphone and we're delighted to be able to offer this groundbreaking device ahead of Christmas, director of Telstra Mobile Andrew Volard said. Our customers will also enjoy superior web browsing on the Galaxy Nexus thanks to Telstra's HSPA+ mobile download speeds. Customers can pull down web pages faster, stream video with less buffering, and access their social networks more quickly.

Telstra has two other competitors - Vodafone and Optus. However, both of them will offer the advanced smartphone on pre-order basis only.

Vodafone will offer both 24 months and 12 months plans for the Galaxy Nexus. The handset is for free if you subscribe to the $79 Cap, the Infinite $85 Plan and Infinite $100 Plan over 24 months. For the 12 months contract, the handset can be owned for as little as $10 per month (Infinite $100 Plan) or $15 per month ($79 Cap) in handset replayments.

If the users choose Vodafone, they will also get an additional 1 month free of network access.

Optus will offer Galaxy Nexus for free on $79 Plan for 24 months with 2 months of free network access. Or the user can also choose the $29 Plan (or upwards) plus $16 (or less) in handset repayments per month.

The most-expected smartphone has also already been launched in UK, Germany and Canada. No wonder, the Android fans in U.S. are upset about why Verizon Wireless is delaying the launch of Galaxy Nexus in the U.S. market
