Each year hundreds of children and adults are kidnapped or reported missing. This year was no different and many cases of missing children and adults plagued the news and haunted police departments across the country.

The National Crime Information Center reports that as of Dec. 31, 2010 there were 85,820 active missing persons on record. Children and juveniles under the age of 18 accounted for 44.9 percent (or 38,505) of the records. Of the total missing persons, approximately 12 percent (or 10,248 persons) were between the ages of 18 and 20.

In 2011, there were a number of strange, high profile missing persons reports. The case of missing Baby Lisa Irwin in Missouri City captured the hearts of many Americans as did the disappearance of Robyn Lynn Gardner during her vacation in Aruba.
