Taylor Swift has been offered a major role in the upcoming musical film adaptation of the famous Victor Hugo novel Les Misérables.

The country pop crooner of hit songs such as Love Story and Today Was a Fairytale was offered the role of Eponine, Broadworld.com confirmed on Tuesday. The Web site also confirmed that Amanda Seyfried (In Time, Mamma Mia) was offered the role of Cosette.

The latest adaptation of Hugo's classic novel is already shaping up to be quite a promising -- not to mention star-studded -- film. At the helm is British director Tom Hooper, who most recently brought audiences the Oscar-winning film The King's Speech.

Hugh Jackman will take the lead role as Jean Valjean, a reformed thief. Anne Hathaway is set to play Fantine, whose illness and death become the catalyst for the protagonist's fatherly relationship with her daughter, Cosette. Other acting favorites include Helena Bonham Carter as Madame Thénardier and Russell Crowe as Valjean's nemesis, Javert.

As Eponine, Swift would have an interesting role to play.

Readers of Hugo's book -- which has been adapted multiple times for various mediums -- know that Eponine starts off in the story as one of the spoiled daughters of a corrupt couple, the Thénardiers, and ends up a street urchin. She also plays an important role in the relationship between young lovers Cosette and Marius, dying in the arms of the latter.

Everyone knows Swift is a gal with chutzpah who isn't afraid to speak her mind -- or write and sing about her ex-boyfriends -- but does she have what it takes to carry such a dramatic role?

Judging by her so-far unimpressive acting resume, which includes a role in the Garry Marshall romantic comedy Valentine's Day, probably not.
