Chpwn's new Siri "crack" may be legal, but users easier to enable the personal assistant on their iPhone 4 would do well to learn some of the hack's caveats first. Reuters

Here is a big news for the iBook fans, French hacker @xvolks said on Thursday that he has patched the kernel in Corona to make iBooks work without the ugly tweak called xBooks.

@xvolks said on his blog that he developed this patch on his iPhone, so he need to test and adjust this patch on other devices. But he does not have any iPad or iPod, so he hopes MuscleNerd can run the test.

He did not reveal the release date.

Ever since the iOS 5.0.1 untethered jailbreak for non-A5 devices was released at the end of 2011, many problems popped up. One of those problems is the iBooks crashing error that affects users' ability to launch the iBooks app. And even after MuscleNerd updated the RedSn0w 0.9.10b to version 3, iBooks crashing error still continued.

There is a package available in Cydia called xBooks, which supposedly can fix the crashing error. However, some users reported xBooks did not work well, while others said they could fix the crash via a specific procedure.

@xvolks's progress definitely brings the good news to those who are struggling with the iBooks issue. One Twitter user @sachin234000 said, Thank-you so much, you just saved my ass. Thanks Thanks Thanks...!!!

In addition, the hacker community recently made a big progress towards release iOS 5 untethered jailbreak for iPhone 4S and iPad 2. French hacker and Chronic Dev Team member Pod2g said they have escaped from Apple's sandbox on his blog, @planetbeing escaped from the sandbox with the help of @saurik...Now it should be a matter of days. Still no precise ETA of course. We all want this to be finished ASAP, we're getting tired!

Following is the full text of @xvolks's post:

Kernel sandbox patched !With the invaluable help of @pod2g, I've patched the kernel in corona to make iBooks work without the ugly tweak called xBooks. Still no ETA.I've developed this patch on my iPhone 4. It needs to be adjusted to the other devices and being tested.Since I do not own an iPad nor an iPod, I cannot do that myself. Hopefully, MuscleNerd will do the rest of the job and will release the package soon. For xBooks users:When this fix will be released, the xBooks fix will be obsolete and you'll need to remove it and reinstall iBooks.Happy reading !
