Jim Carrey Turns 50
Hollywood funnyman Jim Carrey has turned 50.
The rubber-faced actor can look back on his half century and take satisfaction in his career, as he rose from a humble stand-up comedian in 1979 to the 1990s films - Ace Ventura: Pet Detective, The Mask and Dumb & Dumber - that thrust him into superstardom and made him a household name.
A father and grandfather, Carey also provided comedy gold playing a customer services representative in The Cable Guy, the Riddler in Batman Forever and a lawyer compelled to tell the truth in Liar Liar.
He may, however, be best remembered for his role as Truman Burbank in the film The Truman Show, which resonates with the reality TV shows of the present.
His films have earned him more than $2.3 billion, as well as two Golden Globe Awards and four nominations.
It is undeniable that the expressive comedy master has left a side-splitting mark on pop culture.
In celebration of his half century, we take a look back at his life in film.
