Amazon's Kindle Fire, which only debuted in November 2011, has edged passed the Samsung Galaxy Tab as the most used Android tablet, according to the latest report.

The Kindle Fire already represents 35.7 percent of total Android tablet application sessions, while the Galaxy Tab has been reduced to just 35.6 percent, according to the analytics firm Flurry. Good sales of Amazon’s Kindle Fire tablet led to significant gains for Google’s Android operating system in the tablet market share during the fourth quarter of 2011.

"In January, after the holiday boom in devices and in apps, we see that strong adoption of Kindle Fire, combined with significant downloads driven from the Amazon App Store, resulted in a massive surge in session usage that just edges out the Galaxy Tab," Flurry vice president of marketing Peter Farago said.

The Fire is also driving more paid downloads. After examining the top 5 paid apps that ranked in the top 10 apps in both the Amazon App Store and Android Market, it has reported that the Fire drove 2.5 times more paid downloads than the Galaxy Tab.

The report has attributed Amazon’s success to an Apple-style Fire launch and also its decision to offer a more consumer-friendly version of the Android OS and an improved application purchase and download experience. It is remarkable what Amazon has done in such a short period and shows that its focus on media consumption, low price and simple purchasing makes it an appealing device to own.
