George Harrison is coming to an iPad near you, in the form of a new app.
The new app, Guitar Collection: George Harrison, takes users on a virtual tour of the late Beatles guitarist's instruments, according to Harrison's Web site.

Available Feb. 23, two days before what would have been Harrison's 69th birthday, the app was developed by Harrison's son, Dhani Harrison, also a musician. Dhani plays in a bands of his own, including the alternative group thenewno2 and the mellow L.A. supergroup Fistful of Mercy with Joseph Arthur and Ben Harper.
The app, which will be sold for $9.99 a pop, is currently being used at the Grammy Museum's exhibit "George Harrison: Living in the Material World," which allows visitors to take a closer look at the instruments through detailed photos. Each picture in the exhibit tells a unique story, complete with information on where and when the instrument was made and how Harrison acquired each one, along with which songs they can be heard on.

Exclusive to the app is a video section, which is not currently part of the Grammy Museum version. The section includes recent footage of various musicians, including Dhani Harrison, Harper, Mike Campbell (of Tom Petty & the Heartbreakers) and Queens of the Stone Age/Eagles of Death Metal member Josh Homme, playing the iconic instruments.

According to the LA Times, the app will be updated as more guitars from Harrison's estate are documented. The updates will be free for those who have already purchased the app.
Though it is not confirmed, the name of the app suggests that this is the first in a series of many more apps that will explore the large history of guitar heroes and the instruments that made them legendary.
