Mashco-Piro: 'Uncontacted' Tribe Photographed in Peru [SLIDESHOW]

There are still places left in the world where people live as they did 10,000 years ago. Many of them are located in the verdant rainforests of South America.

Survival International, a non-profit organization dedicated to protecting indigenous people's rights, has released a series of photographs of an uncontacted tribe known as the Mashco-Piro, located in southeast Peru.

The tribe's status as "uncontacted" is tenuous as the land they inhabit within Peru's Manú National Park is increasingly encroached upon by illegal logging and gas and oil drilling. Already, some have been displaced, while others have been exposed to and influenced by the modern world.

The Mashco-Piro people inhabit the rainforests of southeast Peru, and are one of 100 uncontacted tribes said to exist around the world.
