The Mashco-Piro tribe are one of 100 uncontacted tribes said to exist in the world, and were recently photographed in Peru. Many uncontacted tribes have yet to be observed, though logging, oil and gas drilling and other resource extracting operations of modern societies have encroached upon their homelands, threatening their traditional way of life and seclusion from civilization.

While some indigenous peoples have yet to be contacted, there are many others that have been striving to maintain their cultures and beliefs in the modern world.
