New York Knicks forward Amare Stoudemire's older brother, Hazell, was killed early Monday morning in an auto accident in Lake Wells, Florida.

The team said Stoudemire is traveling to Florida to be with his family and will not be with the team for Monday night's game against the Jazz in New York. The team did not know when he will return, ESPN.com said.

The Florida Highway Patrol said the elder Stoudemire's car was traveling at a "high rate of speed," when it rear-ended a tractor trailer on Route 27. He was not wearing a seatbelt, and was declared dead at the scene. Police are waiting for test results to determine if he had been drinking before the crash. He was 35.

Stoudemire has been averaging 18.2 points, 8.1 rebounds, and 1.5 assists per game this season.
